Bath & Racquet

Bath & Racquet

Halflants + Pichette, leading Sarasota architects, designed the Bath & Racquet Club redevelopment as a modern mixed-use community where residents and visitors can live, work, and stay active. The plan includes 256 residential units, 70,000 square feet of offices and retail, and a shared clubhouse serving both residents and members. A public park, playground, two dog parks, and a one-kilometer running trail connect the development to the larger Sarasota community, keeping the site open and active from dawn to dusk.

The Bath & Racquet Club has long been a local gathering place rather than just a fitness center. The new design preserves this legacy by combining community spaces, recreation, and wellness programs within a contemporary framework. Elevated courtyards, shaded walkways, and carefully placed townhomes create a balance between public and private zones, while landscaped pedestrian paths link the entire site. Cars are tucked beneath the courtyards and tennis courts to maintain openness, walkability, and a park-like character throughout the property.

COMMUNITY REVITALIZATION THROUGH MIXED-USE DESIGN

The redevelopment honors the club’s history while expanding its role for future generations. Seventeen tennis courts anchor the plan, surrounded by multi-family residences, private yards, and commercial spaces that promote activity and connection. The design integrates recreation with daily living, offering tennis, swimming, pickleball, yoga, fitness, and spin in facilities accessible to all ages. This approach strengthens community health and well-being while creating a vibrant social environment.

Memorial trees planted by longtime members reflect the site’s emotional importance to Sarasota. By introducing multi-family housing as a transition between single-family neighborhoods and commercial corridors, the project achieves financial sustainability without city funding. The Bath & Racquet Club redevelopment exemplifies how Halflants + Pichette combine architecture, planning, and context to preserve local history while shaping Sarasota’s future. The result is a modern, community-focused environment that continues to bring people together in meaningful ways.
