Halflants + Pichette, award-winning Sarasota architects and experienced Longboat Key architects, designed the Charron Residence as a modern coastal home inspired by the clients’ former condominium in Switzerland. That residence featured broad terraces and sweeping mountain views, which informed the approach to this new waterfront site. The design reinterprets those ideas for Florida’s Gulf Coast, framing the landscape with terraces, roof decks, and open living spaces that capture the character of Longboat Key.
The floor plan builds on the proportions of the Swiss original but adapts them to an elevated structure suited for coastal living. Larger volumes open the interior to natural light and long views of the surrounding environment. A roof terrace and lower pool terrace reconnect the home to the ground and expand opportunities for outdoor life. A mezzanine between levels adds a new viewpoint, offering diagonal sightlines through the main living area and reinforcing spatial connections across floors.

The Charron Residence organizes movement as an architectural experience. Two exterior stairs connect upper and lower levels, creating an easy flow between indoor spaces and outdoor terraces. The guest bedrooms, which also function as home offices, are positioned along a continuous circulation loop that links every key space. Starting from the master suite, the path descends to the pool terrace, traces along the water’s edge, climbs back to the dining terrace, and crosses the double-height living room before returning to the main corridor.
This sequence of movement defines how the house is lived in and viewed. By combining clear structure with open circulation and layered terraces, the residence blends European inspiration with coastal Florida design. The result is a modern Longboat Key home that unites indoor and outdoor life while reflecting Halflants + Pichette’s precision and balance in contemporary waterfront architecture.
