Indian Beach Residence

Indian Beach Residence

Set on a one-acre bayfront site in Sarasota, the Indian Beach Residence was designed by Halflants + Pichette to integrate naturally with its landscape. The property’s defining features—two grand oaks and a large Indian Mound—guided the home’s placement and form. To reduce visual scale and maintain a sense of calm within the site, the design is composed of multiple volumes rather than a single mass. This composition grounds the house within its setting while maximizing open views across Sarasota Bay.

The design carefully balances transparency and privacy. The west façade opens to the bay through large glass walls that capture panoramic views and daylight, while the east elevation remains more enclosed, offering seclusion from the street. This contrast between openness and solidity allows the residence to feel both protected and expansive, fully attuned to its site conditions and coastal surroundings.

LANDSCAPE, LIGHT, AND WATERFRONT LIVING

Terraces extend along the western side of the home, allowing the living areas to flow effortlessly into outdoor rooms. These shaded spaces become central to daily life, framing sunset views and inviting year-round use in Sarasota’s warm climate. The interplay between solid structure, filtered light, and the bay beyond creates an environment that feels connected to both land and water.

The Indian Beach Residence reflects Halflants + Pichette’s approach to Sarasota custom waterfront design—modern in form yet deeply responsive to its site. Through careful consideration of natural features, proportion, and material balance, the project demonstrates how architecture can honor its surroundings while providing comfort, privacy, and lasting beauty along Florida’s Gulf Coast.
