Lee Residence

Lee Residence

The Lee Residence, designed by Halflants + Pichette, is a two-story bayfront home on Longboat Key that captures panoramic views of Sarasota across the water. The design emphasizes openness to the bay while maintaining privacy, shade, and structural clarity. The home’s L-shaped plan frames outdoor living areas that connect directly to the pool and terrace, creating a seamless relationship between interior and exterior spaces. Every element of the design is shaped by light, proportion, and the surrounding coastal environment.

On the bayside, the roof projects twenty-three feet over the pool deck to form a shaded outdoor room that measures sixty-three by twenty-three by twenty-three feet. This covered terrace serves as the home’s primary living area, open to breezes yet protected from direct sun. Louvers filter light across the pool and interior, producing subtle patterns that change throughout the day. A cantilevered master terrace extends into this zone, giving the façade depth and emphasizing the connection between structure and view.

SHADE, STRUCTURE, AND COASTAL EXPRESSION

A continuous concrete wall defines the home’s sense of strength and privacy while contrasting with the transparency of the glass bayside elevation. The balance of heavy and light materials expresses both protection and openness, reinforcing the architectural dialogue between shelter and exposure. On the street side, horizontal lines and crisp detailing ground the home within its coastal setting. The wall slices through the façade to guide entry, revealing the double-height foyer that introduces vertical volume to the otherwise horizontal plan.

The Lee Residence reflects Halflants + Pichette’s expertise in Longboat Key custom home design and Sarasota waterfront architecture. By combining deep shading strategies, carefully framed views, and strong structural gestures, the project demonstrates how thoughtful coastal architecture can achieve elegance, comfort, and resilience along Florida’s Gulf Coast.
