The Lucas Residence, designed by Halflants + Pichette, is a modern two-story home located at 2056 Sunnyside Place in Sarasota. The 3,192-square-foot residence balances contemporary design with livable family spaces, offering a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor environments. The layout includes a primary suite, two additional bedrooms, a home office, and an attached guest suite, creating a flexible plan suited for both daily life and hosting.
The home’s rear elevation opens to a shaded pool deck, forming an outdoor living area that is comfortable year-round in Sarasota’s subtropical climate. A broad canopy and upper-level balcony define the home’s rhythm, connecting the architecture to its landscape while adding texture and shadow to the façade. The garage is positioned to face the side property line, keeping doors hidden from view and preserving the clean, modern character of the street-facing elevation.
FORM, FUNCTION, AND FAMILY LIVING
The second story of the Lucas Residence cantilevers over the lower level, providing shade and protection for outdoor spaces below. This gesture gives the design a distinct architectural identity while improving comfort and usability. The projecting volumes, combined with large glass openings, create balance between openness and privacy. Every element is proportioned to capture light, frame views, and maintain a clear relationship between structure and site.
