Oriole Residence

Oriole Residence

The Oriole Residence, designed by Halflants + Pichette, is a modern single-family home organized around a two-story central courtyard. The U-shaped floor plan embraces this open space, drawing light and air into every room while maintaining privacy on a 14,000-square-foot corner lot. The design balances openness and seclusion, allowing the home to feel connected to its surroundings while remaining protected from view. Courtyard living defines the character of the house, offering outdoor rooms that extend the main living areas and create a calm, sunlit retreat within the property.

Each part of the home is positioned to respond to Sarasota’s subtropical climate. The courtyard opens to the south for warmth and light, while broad overhangs provide shade throughout the day. A continuous indoor-outdoor connection reinforces the sense of flow, with large glass openings framing views of greenery and sky. The composition reflects the firm’s expertise in modern coastal design, combining spatial clarity, proportion, and livable comfort.

LIGHT, STRUCTURE, AND SITE INTEGRATION

The Oriole Residence demonstrates how structure and detailing shape architectural experience. The roofline tapers to less than half an inch at its edge, producing a light, refined profile. A continuous linear skylight divides the public and private zones of the home, releasing warm air while filling the interiors with natural light. A cantilevered office projects toward the street, balancing the enclosed stair volume along the opposite axis. From the entry, a grated metal bridge extends this line through the courtyard, reinforcing visual and spatial continuity.

As Sarasota architects and custom home builders, Halflants + Pichette deliver contemporary design grounded in craft and precision. The Oriole Residence reflects their integrated design-build approach, where architecture and construction work together to achieve both aesthetic control and performance. The result is a modern Sarasota home that captures light, movement, and material clarity while responding thoughtfully to its site.
