Halflants + Pichette, award-winning Sarasota architects, designed and built this residence through their architect-led design-build approach. The home responds directly to Sarasota’s subtropical climate with modern architecture, sustainable features, and integrated outdoor living. Overhangs, shaded terraces, operable systems, and solar panels balance comfort with energy efficiency while centering a private courtyard. The design integrates openness and privacy, creating a residence that feels connected to its surroundings while remaining protected from heat and glare.
The main house is tall and narrow, oriented east to west, with a 16-foot roof projection that shades the yard and creates a verandah blending indoor and outdoor space. Masonry walls provide privacy, while interior volumes extend toward the courtyard with exposed concrete shadowboxes. The “L”-shaped plan encloses the central courtyard and connects the main house, master suite, and garage. A transparent, double-height living room faces the courtyard, while interior and exterior stairs create circulation loops. Carefully layered spaces frame views of the landscape and bring natural light deep into the home.
