Graphic Studio at the University of South Florida in Tampa is a nationally recognized workshop dedicated to advancing contemporary art and education. Halflants + Pichette designed a proposal that combines cultural expression with commercial functionality, reinforcing the firm’s expertise in Tampa commercial and institutional architecture. The project positions Graphic Studio as both a creative hub and a campus gateway, connecting artists, students, and educators through a shared architectural environment.
Located at the western edge of USF’s main campus, the building design establishes a bold visual presence. A cantilevered form on the north façade projects toward the center of campus, creating a strong entry gesture that signals arrival and engagement. This architectural move reinforces Graphic Studio’s identity as a place of collaboration and innovation. The design brings the institution’s artistic mission into clear conversation with the broader academic landscape.

The building’s southern façade is fully glazed to maximize daylight in the studio and gallery spaces while framing views of the surrounding pond and cypress grove. A broad roof canopy extends over the glass wall, providing shade and emphasizing the link between interior workspaces and the natural campus setting. Offices and conference areas along the northern side of the plan balance function and circulation, giving the building a clear and efficient organization.
At the core, a three-story atrium serves as both gallery and connector. This central space bridges the studios and workshops, encouraging movement, transparency, and interdisciplinary exchange. The result is a dynamic environment where creative production and exhibition coexist. The USF Graphic Studio proposal illustrates Halflants + Pichette’s strength in designing cultural and educational architecture that fosters creativity, community, and connection within the fabric of the University of South Florida.
