The St Pete Pier’s history is longstanding in the community and has always played a vital role in the downtown area. The City of St. Petersburg was looking for a way to revitalize the downtown area to attract both seasonal tourists and residents. The New St. Pete Pier created a destination, working in conjunction with the surrounding restaurants and shops that line Beach Drive. The new pier activates the boardwalk incorporating spaces and paths for visitors to enjoy as they make their way out to the pierhead. Other amenities include a coastal thicket, wet classroom, tilted lawn, dining, fishing, boating, and swimming.
