Peoples Bank was restored by Halflants + Pichette through a careful historic rehabilitation of one of downtown Clearwater’s most recognizable early twentieth-century buildings. Originally constructed in 1910 and later transformed with a Mediterranean Revival identity in the 1920s, the building occupies a prominent corner at 432 Cleveland Street and remains an important piece of the city’s architectural fabric. The project focuses on recovering the clarity, craftsmanship, and civic presence of the original design while adapting the structure for continued use.
The restoration centers on the reconstruction of the building’s terra-cotta façade, which had been lost over time. Working from archival photographs, each missing element was studied, redrawn, and custom fabricated to closely match the original composition. The new terra-cotta pieces were cast, glazed, and kiln-fired using traditional methods, allowing the façade to regain its depth, texture, and historic character. Rather than treating preservation as a surface treatment, the project rebuilds the architectural identity of the landmark with precision and restraint.
