ORIOLE RESIDENCE
The residence’s U-shaped floor plan wraps around a dramatic two-story shaded courtyard that opens up to the south. Special care was given to open the house to the outdoors and create comfortable exterior spaces. The design takes full advantage of the 14,000 square foot corner lot. The edge of the roof tapers to less than a ½ inch. A slit cuts through the length of the roof to allow for the warm air to escape. The slit extends to the interior as a linear skylight and separates the public spaces from the private realm. The cantilevering office sits prominently with commanding views both to the street and to the interior court. The stairs extrude on the front façade at the start of a E-W axis that extends from the entry with a metal-grated bridge.
